Behind the build

A home is a human story.

Directing Timber Kings meant following a build from two sides. There was the builder's story: the problems and challenges he had to work through to satisfy the client. And there was the client's story, often a deeply personal reason for wanting that home in that place.

The final reveal brought those stories together. The work, the setbacks and the hopes behind the project became something the client could finally walk into.

On location

Homes shaped by their setting.

One of the great pleasures of the series was meeting people from Anchorage, Alaska, to Munich, Germany, and travelling to locations such as Muskoka and the Rocky Mountains. We often filmed far from town, out in the wild.

These could be luxurious log homes, but the setting was part of their appeal: beside a lake, looking toward a mountain, or facing the ocean. That sense of place gave each build its own scale and character.
