The story behind the series

It starts with the people.

Recipes for Connection brings caregivers and the people they care for together through cooking and conversation. What I enjoyed most was the relationship we had with the people on camera, and everything they brought to the series.

I let the participants drive the material. Their conversations, humour and interactions gave each episode its character.

Then, in the edit suite, I shaped that material into a story: finding its beginning, middle and end, and giving it a format, pace and rhythm while keeping the participants at its heart.

Space for the unexpected.

The moments between the recipe steps can tell you as much as the recipe itself. The pleasure was seeing what each person brought to the room, then finding the shape of an episode in those moments.
